Peanuts

A baseball park favorite, peanuts aren’t only fun to eat but they’re also healthy for us too!

Peanuts are technically legumes, making them family members of beans and lentils rather than tree nuts. They can be purchased within a shell or already shelled either raw or roasted. Peanuts are also the basis of many additional products, such as peanut oil and flour.

Health Benefits of Peanuts:

Just like many other nuts we often speak and hear of, peanuts have quite a bit of healthy fat. They’re primarily made of both mono and polyunsaturated fats which are great for heart and brain health.  They’re also known for their protein content, making them a great vegetarian or vegan protein source.

Peanuts are low on the glycemic index as well, making them a great snack or meal component for those with or looking to prevent type II diabetes or high blood sugar.
