Hi guys! Today I’m taking on the classic ice cream float recipe and making a healthier option for you to try! I’ve partnered with C Botanicals to share a bubbly, digestive friendly ice cream float made with coconut milk ice cream and my favorite C Botanicals flavor for a gut-friendly treat loaded with probiotics. A new kind of float
Growing up in Cincinnati, Ohio, there was a place my dad, brother and I went to all the time called the Root Beer Stand. At the Root Beer Stand we’d get footlong cheese coneys (for those of you new to Cincinnati style dogs it’s chili, cheese, onions on top of a hot dog – intense), chips, and root beer floats loaded with vanilla ice cream. In my mind, I remember that meal tasted like heaven and reminds me of childhood in a lot of ways. My have times changed, my palate has evolved, and some food sensitivities like gluten and dairy have kept me from enjoying that exact meal. I often get asked about this from you guys and clients, what do I do in situations like this? Do I completely deprive myself of those classic childhood meals that I dearly loved? No! I practice balance, and I know my body and how it reacts when I eat those types of foods, and 99% of the time that’s enough motivation to look for another option or make a recipe makeover! How you practice balance is unique to YOU, and I deeply encourage you to hone in on your own mind-body intuition.
So, beyond practicing balance in that way, I’ve come to develop new and more nutritionally dense spins on these childhood favorites to not only selfishly fulfill that need in my life, but also I hope that it touches a place in yours as well! Meet the digestive friendly Botanical Brew Ice Cream Float made with my favorite flavor from Clearly Kombucha’s new C Botanicals line, Strawberry Milk Thistle. Of course you can enjoy this recipe year round, but there’s something about ice cream floats in the middle of a hot summer day that makes my heart (and belly) so happy. Besides drinking tons of water, sparkling water, hot teas, or iced teas, kombucha and other fermented drinks like C Botanicals are my go-to when I’m craving something that’s a little sweet and bubbly. Typically I gravitate towards this during 1-3 pm when I want a little pick me up but might not be super hungry– it always hits the spot. C Botanicals is the first-ever fermented botanical brew with probiotics. Whereas kombucha is made from fermenting tea, C Botanicals are made from fermenting botanicals with probiotics (the good guys- read here for a primer on gut health), which helps keep our digestive systems happy, populated with good bacteria, and moving along efficiently. The only thing I recommend looking out for when drinking kombucha and other fermented drinks is the sugar content. Many kombuchas have about 2-7g sugar per serving but some can have up to 20g per serving, so be mindful and drink the lower sugar varieties like both the C Botanical brews and kombuchas from Clearly Kombucha which only have 2g / 4g per bottle! You can also try this float with one of the other C Botanical flavors – Ginger Root, Turmeric Cardamom, Lemongrass, and Holy Basil, all crafted with great attention to the intentionality of the ingredients. - 1/2 cup [url href=”https://nutritionstripped.com/simply-coconut-milk-ice-cream/” target=”_blank”]Coconut Milk Ice Cream[/url] (or you can use [url href=”https://nutritionstripped.com/simply-bananas-banano-cream/” target=”_blank”]Banana Ice Cream[/url])
- 1/4 cup mashed strawberries (fresh or frozen)
- Pinch of sea salt
- Optional garnish: fresh mint and bee pollen
- In a tall glass, add the scoop of ice cream to the bottom followed by the strawberries. Pour the C Botanicals on top and serve with optional garnishes.
- Enjoy immediately.
