I’m a big fan of lavender. Partially because it smells so good, but mostly I use it to chill out when I need instant relaxation. I get asked about essential oils a lot here on the blog, so today I wanted to share a bit about lavender, the science behind it, and how it can help you relax and reduce anxiety. Beyond that I wanted to share how I use it throughout the week to keep me chill.

Lovely Lavender

No. 1

Good ole’ diffuser. I love using the diffuser throughout the day. I like using grapefruit and lemon oils for an energizing scent, but as soon as I start to wind down I pop in the lavender and it instantly switches my mind from “work mode” to “relax mode”. It’s amazing how powerful scent can be to help us change our mood and mindset. I enjoy this essential oil and this diffuser.

Spritz the smells! I like to make my own lavender essential oil spray (note: I’m not an expert at this recipe, but it’s worked for me!). In a small spray bottle, I’ll add about 20 drops of essential oil to about 1 cup of water and give it a good shake every time before I spray. I’ll spray our bed and bedroom right before going to sleep and it’s such a great way to relax and helps me get a deeper sleep. Lavender has been shown to help improve sleep quality, reduce anxiety, and reduce depression – an overall mood booster.

Self Care Sunday! We talk a lot about the importance of self care and showing yourself a little extra self love to show up fully for yourself so you can show up fully in other areas of your life. I LOVE taking baths on Sunday with a little epsom salt and lavender added to the bath (see No. 5 for a simple bath hack). In the bath I’ll do a deep hair conditioner where I’ll let it soak in for about an hour after shampooing. A new favorite that I’ve been using is the Avalon Organics Nourishing Lavender Shampoo and Conditioner – it literally smells amazing, and it’s the only one I’ve found where the lavender isn’t too overpowering. It’s perfect to help ease into relaxation. Added bonus, after you rinse, your hair is super soft, shiny, and smells like lavender which carries throughout the day.

In your food! I have a couple recipes I use with lavender but my favorites are my Raw Lavender Cheesecake with Hazelnut Crust and the Creamy Lavender Honey Paleta. Both are delicious and a fun way to use lavender while nourishing your body. Try making one of these healthy sweet treats during your self care Sunday, put your hair conditioner on while you cook, and then hop in the bath!

In the bath. Just like I mentioned in No. 3, during your self-care Sunday bath ritual you can use Avalon Organics Nourishing Lavender Bath & Shower Gel as a bubbly bath! I know, it sounds weird but I kinda figured this out by accident when I dropped my shower gel bottle in the tub. It foamed up when I started the bath and voila! You have a bubble bath! I’ve been using the Avalon Organics Nourishing Lavender Shampoo and Conditioner in the bath and shower too it’s the same scent as the shower gel – I’ll take lavender all around. Next time you start a warm bath just add a couple tablespoons of the shower gel to it AND wash your hair for double the relaxation.

Love lavender?

I hope you guys enjoyed these ideas for using lavender in your lifestyle and love how it can be so versatile and part of your wellness routine. How do you like to use lavender? I’m always intrigued and looking for new ideas on this, so share in the comments! Have you used shampoo as your bubbly bath before? Let me know!
